Ludwig finished his cigarette and looked up - just in time to see someone stealing from the bagel cart nearby. He wasn't able to get a good look at the person, but that didn't matter; he needed to bring them in.
Quickly walking over and grabbing the girl's (her hair gave her away) arm, he turned her around. "You need to come with me to-" He stopped mid-sentence when he saw who it was. It was Leonia, who he thought had left by now.

Leonia was nearly half way over to the alley when a smirk could be seen on her face. Seriously, it was just too easy. Although she hated stealing, it was an easy way to get by without having to do much.
Getting caught wasn't necessarily in the girl's agenda, but it seemed to happen anyway. After being turned around, she recognized the person who grabbed her arm was Ludwig. Leonia's smirk seemed to disappear and a deadpan expression was seen on her face. "You... I'm not going anywhere."

Ludwig was just as irritated as Leonia looked. He couldn't believe he had caught the girl stealing of all things. All of a sudden, he resented his job. He knew she probably needed that bagel. BUt she wasn't allowed to get it like that.
"Look, you need to come to the station with me, whether you like it or not."

Leonia glared at him, holding on tightly to her bagel. Her luck seemed to have changed so quickly. Honestly, it was a bit annoying, however, she needed to get out of the situation.
"It's your fault, you know. If you made me food I wouldn't have to ste-, buy, this bagel to get by." It was the honest truth and Leonia certainly would pin this down on Ludwig. There was no way she was going to jail or anything like that.

Ludwig was about to answer when Leonia's words registered. He looked away for a second, feeling kind of bad. He did promise the girl food, even if she was annoying. Well, he could try to get the girl to stop...
"Alright, fine. If you come with me and I make you food, will you stop stealing?"

The girl stared at Ludwig. Stop stealing? That took a few minutes to think about. After he would give her food what would happen then? She probably never see Ludwig again; the girl would be on her own. Thus, Leonia would go back to urban Darwinism and do whatever was necessary to survive.
"I dunno. It depends on my mood that day", she replied thoughtfully. If she were hungry that day and didn't have money, then it would suck for the person trying to sell whatever Leonia wanted. After all, it seemed like everyone else could do whatever they wanted in the city, so why couldn't she?

Ludwig sighed as the girl stared at him like he had three heads. This was not going to be easy. However, for some reason, he didn't want to turn Leonia in. She did however, remind him of his brother, sending a pang of loss through him. He had lost contact with his brother four years ago, and had no clue where he was. Maybe that's why he felt obliged to help her?
"Depends on your mood? It shouldn't! If any other officer but me caught you you'd be in jail right now.Either way, let's continue this back at my house. Please."

Leonia glared at Ludwig, "I can do whatever I want and if I don't want to go to jail or your house, then I won't". The girl came off as a bit childish, but she was rather mature in her mind.
"I don't want to go to your house. I wanna go home and eat my god damn bagel!" Leonia was being difficult, but she wanted to make a point that she wasn't going to listen to just anyone. In fact, even when she was younger her brother was the only one to convince her to do something after hours of arguing. Yet, that was a long time ago, but some things never change.
It was strange; Ludwig was telling Leonia what to do. For the longest time, the girl hasn't had to answer to anyone at all. One of the reasons she left home was because she didn't want to do what her father wanted. Why should she have to do what Ludwig wanted to do?

Now Ludwig was frustrated. She thought he was telling her to do something? Not at all! He never said she had to! He thought she wanted food!
"I wasn't telling you to do anything. I was giving you an opportunity to eat REAL food and have somewhere to stay for a few hours if you wanted it. But since you don't, I'll be leaving. Good luck, and don't let me catch you stealing when I'm on duty." Turning on his heel, Ludwig started back towards his house, finally pissed off.

Leonia was letting her opportunity for food slip away. Yet, she didn't know how to handle the situation now. The girl would have to push her stubbornness aside, which slightly annoyed her, due to the fact that, that was how she always acted.
She slowly began to follow Ludwig, but the steps became bigger as she tried to catch up. However, she let some distance stay between them, for if she changed her mind, Leonia could quickly get out of the situation, but that was very unlikely.

Ludwig mad his way down the street and back to his home, a cozy apartment that was plenty big enough for him and his dogs. He has to work ridiculously hard to keep that place, but it was worth it.
Opening the door, Ludwig let it shut behind him while taking off his shoes and going to collapse on the couch. He'd had enough of people for today. Aster came over and sat near his head, silently waiting for something to happen. Ludwig started petting him while mulling over the last few minute's events in his head.

Leonia felt like a stalker as she followed Ludwig to his home. Yet, she had every chance to turn away, but something stopped her each time.
She hid as she watched Ludwig go into his apartment, mentally kicked herself because that meant she would have to knock on the door and practically beg for food.
The girl walked over to the door and went to knock on it, but quickly stopped herself. Leonia narrowed her eyes and looked down at the ground. There was no way she would nicely ask for food after everything that happened. However, she swallowed her pride and knocked on the door.

Ludwig snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a knock at the door. There was only one person that could be, since he wasn't on really friendly terms with anyone else. Getting up from the couch, he had to hold Aster and Berlitz back to open the door, grabbing Aster's collar and holding Berlitz back with his foot.
Opening the door, he gave Leonia a somewhat sheepish look. "Come in, don't mind the dogs. They tend to get excited around new people." Maneuvering so the he was out of the way and still holding the dogs back, he gave her room to enter.

This one of the few times where Leonia actually felt vulnerable and embarrassed. Quite frankly, she did not particular enjoy either of those feelings, but she needed to push them aside.
Leonia put her head down slightly and muttered, "Okay". The girl was a bit jealous of Ludwig. He had a nice place to stay, food, and could even afford to keep dogs. Leonia used to have a rabbit, but she left him at home since she figured she couldn't afford to keep him.

Ludwig waited for Leonia to enter before shutting the door. The girl looked almost embarrassed to be here, so he felt obliged to make her more comfortable. Berlitz slipped out from behind his leg and sniffed at Leonia's leg. Letting Aster go, Ludwig turned to go to the kitchen.
"Do you want a drink? If the dogs bug you I can put them in the other room." Both dogs were now sitting quietly in front of Leonia, waiting for her to either reject them or pet them.
